4th of July Wrap-up

Posted by janellyo on July 15, 2008

I am but a week late but better late than never right? :)

4th of July was simply wonderful and even included some illegal fireworks in my neighbourhood, enough to freak me out as someone was shooting them right over my house! Right before the 4th, I lost my phone only to have a good samaritan return it. Sometimes people have a way of surprising me.

M visited for the weekend, and we had a great time :) The Chihuly exhibit is currently going on at the San Francisco de Young museum though Sept. 28th. If you live here and have never seen Dale Chihuly’s work, you need to go see this exhibit. I simply am in love with his work ever since the first time I saw it. I’m posting a few of my favourites. It was also a great opportunity for me to take my Nikon SLR out for a spin. It’s been a while.

There was also time this weekend to visit wine country again. Yes, if you live in the bay area, it’s hard NOT to visit the wineries often if you like wine. Luckily there’s always a new region to explore. For this visit, I chose to drive out to the Carneros Trail.

As much as I normally like to try to hit 6 or so wineries in a day things never go as planned. So we only made it to 4 :-p. First was Roche Winery in Sonoma county. It’s a top a gentle sloped hill and overlooks the highway and racetrack. I enjoyed the wines here a lot. Then we moved down the road to Cline Cellars where unfortunately I did not enjoy a single one. The reds were too harsh and the whites were too dry. Then we crossed over into Napa county. I really enjoyed the unpretentious wineries in Sonoma. Napa always seems oh so fake. But luckily the two wineries I had planned to visit (because I did my homework this time) were simply gorgeous to look at, had gorgeous views, and good wine. First stop in Napa was Domaine Carneros Winery, a beautiful chateau on top a hill. It overlooked all this vineyards in the distance. I wish I could live there hehe ;). Then we drive to an even higher hill at the Artesa Winery. This winery also has an in-house artist that is showcased.

This visit really made me happy and I was glad to get away from it all. I only wish every weekend could be like this!
